[ it's not as if gator hasn't been watching. he's known what eddie munson has been up to, dealing here and there, attempting to be careful. nothing stays a secret for too long in tillman country β including each new wave of would-be criminal. gator has seen him, often at a distance, often at night. civilian clothes and a baseball cap pulled low, his truck would pass β a fancy, he decided. nothing to worry about. just an interest, maybe an infatuation. he's pretty with that long hair, those big eyes. that's all it should be.
but when roy tillman is on the line for an arrest β you don't disobey.
it started simple, just as all things do. a pullover, a ticket, a look in eddie munson's eyes that sparked interest. gator knows he could be forgettable β so he slipped into that, waiting. a catch of his breath at eddie changing in front of his window, the way he pulls certain people into the back of that van of his. dealing, whatever. it sent a sharp shock up gator's spine. he's been there. he's seen.
slinking away from the door after locking eddie inside of the suv, gator grins. maybe it'll be clearer to eddie now, that young deputy β ]
( when eddie left hawkins, he figured it could only go up from there. he thought he could build a life here eventually, once he set aside enough money to afford a place. anything's better than living out of his van.
maybe he should have done more research. he knew he wouldn't fare well in the south, especially with his... proclivities, but there's no way there could possibly be a place with worse folks than hawkins. and the people, the locals, had been so friendly to him.
it should have figured they're so nice because there's someone far worse at the top of the food chain, pulling the strings. )
Uh-huh.
( eddie tries to sound unbothered, but he knows it's evident by how his fingers drum on his clothed knee, and he can't stop looking around the back of the suv. gator is used to being obeyed, that much is for sure. if only eddie had more wits about him, maybe he would be able to interfere, show gator what it's like to have to fight for control.
he doesn't fancy ending up in lockup, though. and a phone call to his uncle isn't going to help him this time. )
Where are you taking me? ( he pauses. ) You said the sheriff wants to see me?
you wanted some stalker elements, so. :)
